The product
We sell dry ice, which is solid carbon dioxide (CO₂) at −78.5 °C, in the formats and sizes listed in the shop. We make most orders for the pickup or delivery day you book; a same-day pickup order is packed from stock. Photos show the format; the pieces you receive will vary in shape.
Some formats are marked "Coming soon" or "Pricing on request". They cannot be bought online until they are on sale; ask us for a quote.
Weight and sublimation
We weigh every order when we hand it over or load it for delivery. The weight on your signed packing slip is the weight you received. From that moment, dry ice turns into gas. In a good insulated bin it loses roughly 5–20% a day. In a thin cooler or a warm truck it goes faster. So a 500 lb order picked up this afternoon can read close to 450 lb on your scale tomorrow. Nothing was short. It sublimated.
To lose less, keep the ice in an insulated container with a loose lid (never airtight), keep it closed and out of the sun, and book pickup or delivery close to when you need it.
Prices and taxes
- Prices are in Canadian dollars, per pound or per pack as shown, before tax.
- We add GST at 5%. The total, with tax and any charges, is shown before you place the order.
- An online order with less than $25 of dry ice (after any promo code) carries a small order charge that brings it up to $25, plus GST. Phone and counter orders do not.
- Promo codes apply only on the terms stated with the code, to the dry ice and not to taxes.
- If a price on the site is plainly wrong, we will tell you before we make the order and you can accept the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
- Business customers may have account pricing agreed with us; it applies when they are signed in or order by phone.
Ordering
- You choose at checkout how to get your order: pickup at our plant in Delta, Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm, or delivery to your address. We are closed on BC statutory holidays.
- You choose a pickup window or a delivery day when you order, up to 14 days ahead. Same-day pickup when we have your order in stock. Otherwise order by 2 pm for next-day pickup. For rush orders, please call 604 239 9333.
- Online delivery is for the next working day or later. A same-day delivery is arranged through our office by phone.
- Your order is accepted when we email you the order confirmation. That email is your copy of the order. The receipt or invoice comes with it, or to the email you gave for invoices and receipts.
- We may decline or cancel an order if we cannot make it for your window, if the product is unavailable or if the details look fraudulent. If we cancel, we refund anything you paid in full.
- Custom orders are quoted separately; the quote we confirm in writing sets their price and schedule. Repeat orders on a credit account are covered under Standing orders below.
Payment
- Online: by credit or debit card, or by bank transfer for business accounts, through our payment processor, Helcim. Card details are entered in Helcim's secure window; we never see your card number.
- Pay from a saved bank account: debited only when you press Pay, shown on your statement as Helcim. You may remove the account at any time in Account → Billing.
- At pickup or by phone: card on our terminal, cash, Interac e-Transfer, bank transfer or cheque.
- On account: business customers with an approved credit account can order on invoice. The invoice is due on the terms of that account (net 15 days unless agreed otherwise). Late payment terms are those in the signed credit application.
- An order is released at pickup, or loaded for delivery, once it is paid or placed on an approved account. Our driver does not take payment.
Standing orders
- A standing order repeats every 1, 2 or 4 weeks. It is for accounts with active credit only.
- We place each order two working days before its day, on the account, at that morning's prices. We work out the delivery price again each time.
- Every order from a standing order goes on invoice, due on the terms of the account.
- You can skip one order, or change its products and quantities, until 2 pm the day before. After that, call us.
- If the day is closed (a BC statutory holiday), we move that order to the next working day and tell you. The other dates do not change.
- If we cannot place an order, we tell you once. We try again every hour until 2 pm the day before.
- We may pause a standing order when the credit on the account is not active. We tell you when we do.
Pickup
- Collect your order at 2-730 Eaton Way, Delta, BC, during the window you booked. Give us the order number or the name on the order.
- If someone else is collecting, add their name and phone at checkout. We will hand the order to that person.
- Whoever collects signs for the order. Ownership and risk pass to you when the order is handed over.
- Bring a vehicle with room to keep the ice away from the driver and a way to let fresh air in. Read our safety guide before you come.
Delivery
- We deliver Monday to Friday, during the day, between 8 am and 4 pm. We do not give a time slot. We do not deliver on BC statutory holidays.
- The delivery price depends on the driving distance between our plant and your address, in distance bands. It is shown at checkout, before you pay, as one Delivery line, with GST on top. For an address beyond our delivery area, checkout asks you to call us for a price. There is no minimum for delivery. The $25 minimum for the ice still applies.
- Delivery is paid in advance: by card or bank transfer at checkout, or on invoice for accounts with credit. The driver takes no payment.
- Give us an address a truck can reach, a contact on site and a phone number that works on the day. Add a note for the driver if the dock or the gate needs one. Someone must be there to receive the ice.
- The driver brings a phone. Whoever receives the order signs for it on the screen. If nobody can sign, we text a signing link to the contact on site, and the delivery still counts as made.
- We text you, or email you, when the driver leaves for your address. You can turn this off at checkout and in your account.
- Ownership and risk pass to you when the driver hands the order over at your address.
Returnable bins
- An order of 150 lb or more goes out in our numbered insulated bins. Smaller orders go out in bags.
- The bins stay the property of Polar Sharks Dry Ice. You rent them: $14.99 a bin a week plus GST, unless we agreed another price or period on your account. The rental starts the day the bins leave us. The first week is paid at checkout. Each later week starts by itself, with no late fee, and is invoiced when the bins come back. A bin back on the last day of a week starts no new week. There is no deposit.
- The day before a new week starts we text you, or email you if we have no phone number. The message lists your bins, the day they are due back and the price of the next week. You cannot turn it off, because it is about money owed.
- You can bring the empty bins back to our plant, or we collect them. When a delivery goes out in bins, one bin pickup is added at checkout at the same price as the delivery, once for the whole order and not for each bin.
- Please use the bins only for our dry ice and have them ready for collection on the day agreed.
- A bin that comes back dirty is billed $50 plus GST for cleaning.
- A bin that is not back after 30 days is billed at $1,350 plus GST, its price, together with the rental up to the day we mark it lost.
- We put bin charges on one invoice for all your bins after they come back. Accounts with credit see it on their account, due on their terms. Everyone else gets an email with the invoice and a Pay online button, due in 15 days.
Safe handling
Dry ice causes cold burns on contact and gives off carbon dioxide gas, which can make you unconscious in a closed space. You are responsible for handling, transporting, storing and disposing of it safely once it is handed over, and for passing these warnings to anyone you give it to. Follow our safety guide and safety data sheet. Never eat or swallow dry ice, never seal it in an airtight container, and keep it away from children and pets.
Cancellations and refunds
How to change or cancel an order, and when you get your money back, is set out in our refund and cancellation policy. Because dry ice turns into gas after it is made, we cannot take it back once it has been handed over.
Our responsibility
We promise that what we hand over is dry ice of the format and quantity on your order. If it is not, tell us at pickup or delivery, or within 24 hours and we will make it right as the refund policy describes.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for an order is limited to the amount you paid for it, and we are not liable for indirect losses such as spoiled goods, missed shipments or lost profit, or for harm caused by handling dry ice against our safety instructions. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under British Columbia law, including the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act.
Accounts and use of the site
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for orders placed through your account.
- Give us accurate contact and business details, and keep them up to date.
- Do not misuse the site: no attempts to break in, overload it, scrape it or place false orders. We may close an account that does.
- The text, photos and logos on the site belong to Polar Sharks Dry Ice. Do not copy them for commercial use without our written permission.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and of Canada that apply there, and any dispute goes to the courts of British Columbia. We may update these terms; the version on this page when you place an order is the one that applies to that order.
Questions about these terms: info@polarsharks.ca or 604 239 9333.
