What are dry ice slices for?

Slices are flat pieces of dry ice sold in 5 lb packs. A flat piece covers more of the load than a pile of nuggets, so slices are the easy choice for laying across the top of a cooler, between layers of boxed frozen food, or along the bottom of a shipping box. They stack, they stay put, and they are simple to count.

How many packs of dry ice slices do I need?

Work it out per day. A cooler with the lid on but not latched uses 5 to 10 lb in 24 hours, so one or two packs a day. A shipping box needs about 5 lb per day in transit plus a day of margin, so two packs for an overnight box. For a freezer outage, plan about 1.5 lb per cubic foot for a day.

Can I get dry ice slices the same day?

Slices are cut to order, so give us a day: order online by 2 pm and pick them up, or have them delivered, the next business day. Each pack is 5 lb and you can order as many packs as you need. An order under $25 of ice is charged $25 plus GST.

Should dry ice go on top of the food or underneath?

On top, for most coolers. The cold gas sinks, so slices laid across the top chill everything below them. For a long trip or a shipment, put a layer underneath as well and wrap the slices in newspaper or cardboard so they do not touch the food directly. Fill the gaps so less air is moving around.

Where do I pick up dry ice slices?

At our plant, 2-730 Eaton Way, Delta, BC. Drive into the yard on the right of the building. Our shop is there. Pickup hours are Mon–Fri, 7 am–4 pm, closed on BC statutory holidays. Same-day pickup when we have your order in stock. Otherwise order by 2 pm for next-day pickup. Bring an insulated container for the slices that can vent, such as a cooler with the lid resting on top.
